Este proyecto estudia cómo la acidificación del océano debilita los arrecifes de coral, afectando su capacidad para proteger las costas. CARICOOS, Sea Grant, UPRM y UNH colaboran para monitorear esta amenaza en La Parguera desde 2017.

CARICOOS Buoys are Ready for the Hurricane Season

The Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1st. CARICOOS completed annual maintenance on key buoys in May to ensure real-time ocean and weather data collection and support model validation throughout the season.

U.S. IOOS allocates funds for CARICOOS that will support continuation of its ongoing operations, expand surface current observations, enhance the hurricane glider program, issue Sargasso inundation forecasts and asses its impact on coastal ecosystems

In June 2019, CARICOOS began its fourth IOOS/NOAA program year with $2.5M in funding to enhance its ocean observing system, add HF radar and a new glider, and support Sargassum impact monitoring and forecasting.
