Three new ocean gliders deployed by CARICOOS, NOAA, and Naval Oceanography will collect ocean data in the Caribbean to enhance hurricane intensity forecasts, joining a broader 30-glider global effort.

In September 2019, Sargassum levels dropped sharply across the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, and Atlantic, with totals down to ~3 million tons. Minimal beaching is expected in October, though slight increases may occur later due to eastern Atlantic activity.

As the 2019 hurricane season ended, six NOAA AOML underwater gliders were recovered from the Caribbean and Atlantic. These gliders collected key ocean data to improve hurricane forecasts and will be prepared for redeployment next season.
